'Our' British Standards - update
The first full meeting of BSI committee EPL100 for six years was held
on 12 December.
The revisions of BS 7594 and BS 7827 have been approved by BSI
management and EPL100, and the Panel compositions are based on the lists
produced at the September 24 meeting. Steve Jones, Convener of the BS 7827 Panel, has produced an explanatory document on the revision plans, which can be downloaded here.
The same system can apply to the revision of BS 7594, although at
present we do not have such a large list.
John Devaney will act as a Project Manager for the Panels, and carry out
editorial work. He is a qualified physicist, so we should have no fears
about his understanding of our technical terms. He might have more
difficulty with our engineering compromises, though!
With regard to BS 6259, Ciaran received one objection to it being
declared obsolescent (more were expected), so it was agreed to postpone
a decision on that until further opinion could be sought from the
industry, which means you!! Tthe point here is that some parts of
it are out of date, but much of it isn't, and people don't want to lose
those parts. Maybe if BSI can't support a Panel to update it, the work
could be done by correspondence within PLASA and ISCE, and presented to
BSI when reasonably complete. This is how BS 7827 was produced.
So, if you consider that BS 6259, perhaps amended, is still valuable,
please send an e-mail NOW to robert.turpin@bsigroup.com with a
copy to tech@isce.org.uk and if you want to participate in any
revision or amendment, please say that, too. |
